One of Apple’s officials has stated that the new iPad 3 is able to create a “world where PCs are no longer at the center of your digital world”. To find out if what this official said is actually true I’ve decided to compare the new iPad with a laptop. Check out what I discovered.

First of all you should remind yourself that both the iPad 3 and any other laptop are portable devices that allow you to browse the web, play your favorite games and watch movies. You also have the possibility to create spreadsheets, type various documents and chat with your friends on various social networks. The obvious question that you might ask is:” What’s different?”. I can answer this question by saying that the iPad 3 is lighter and smaller than any laptop available on the market measuring 241.2 x 185.7 x 9.4mm and weighing only 662 grams. Moreover, Apple’s tablet comes with a superior screen and a better resolution that any laptop: a gorgeous 9.7-inch LED-backlit IPS touchscreen with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels. In addition, the iPad 3’s display can support touch navigation which you won’t find on any laptop.

By owning an iPad 3 you will also be sure that any app you purchase for it will definitely work and provide an incredible user experience. The iPad 3 can also offer text and multimedia messaging, Wi-Fi, A-GPS and 3G and 4G connectivity. You will also have the possibility to enjoy taking pictures with the 5MP rear camera equipped with geo-tagging, autofocus and 1080p video recording capabilities and make video calls with the help of the VGA front facing camera.

However, even if all these features are on board, the iPad 3 isn’t automatically the best choice between a tablet and a laptop. That’s because a laptop offers an infinite software library and the possibility to choose from various operating systems available on the market including Linux, Windows and Mac OS. Another important difference between the iPad 3 and any other laptop is the keyboard available. Laptops are able to provide pretty great physical keyboards, feature that you won’t find on the iPad 3.  I also need to mention that even if for the iPad 3 you will find many accessories and peripherals including cases, docks and wireless keyboards, for laptops you will find even more products.

Another important aspect that needs to be taken into consideration is the price of these portable devices. The entry price of a decent laptop is under £250 while for the iPad 3 the price starts at £400. Not many users can afford to spend that much money on the new iPad.
