The iPad 2 impresses with an attractive design and plenty of advanced features. Moreover even if it’s been on the market for almost a year it’s still a mystery for some. To help you uncover some hidden capabilities and their value in practice I have selected a few of the most useful tips and tricks that can help you master this Apple tablet.

For instance, you can use the side switch of the iPad to enable/disable the various audio alerts without affecting video/audio playback. This switch can also be used to lock the screen’s orientation in landscape or portrait mode. You should also know that for this side switch you can assign a function or the other by visiting “Settings” and then “General” and using the “Use Side Switch to” option.
Multitasking is another important feature of the iPad 2 that you can easily use. For instance, by pressing the Home button twice, you will be able to access a list of all the apps currently running on your iPad. In addition, by swiping the multitasking bar left to right, you will be able to easily access a shortcut to iTunes, the volume controls and even the audio/video playback controls. On this multitasking bar you will also see the side switch if you set it to mute alert sounds.

Another great tip and trick that you can use on your iPad 2 refers to the possibility to secure your backups. You can secure your backup data in iTunes by accessing this app on your iPad and then clicking “Summary”. In the new window displayed you will have to check “Encrypt iPad backup” from “Options”. You can also make sure your passcode is complicated enough to keep your iPad safe. Keep in mind that iOS offers a four-number passcode that you can turn off by visiting “Settings”, “General” and then tapping on “Passcode Lock”. In this last window you will be able to turn off the passcode or type a new one that can help you encrypt your e-mails and files. To add even more protection to your iPad, you should consider setting your device to erase all the data available after several failed passcode entry attempts. The number of attempts can be set from the same “Passcode Lock” window. You will just have to focus this time on the “Erase Data” option.
As I mentioned above these are only a few of the tips and tricks that you can use on your iPad 2. In order to find out more about your iPad you should download the free iPad User Guide and watch the Apple video tours that show you how to use the preinstalled apps available on the tablet.
