How To Turn Off Ipad

iDevices like the iPad don’t shut down the old-fashioned way, so many iPad owners that are the beginning of their Apple tablet ownership manage to leave the iPad in a sleep mode in order to actually turn it off. In that sleep mode the iPad looks shut down, but it’s not. All you actually need to do in order to wake it up is hit the Home or Refresh buttons. That means there is more than one way to turn off an iPad, depending on what you understand by “off”.

What I feel the need to mention from the very start is that an iPad will enter by itself in sleep mode every time a certain inactivity period is detected. This is an automatic feature that helps the tablet save power and can be controlled by altering certain settings. These settings can be found in the General tab of the Settings app, under the Auto-Lock section. Within that section you are given the chance to have the iPad you own automatically enter sleep every 2, 5, 10 or 15 minutes of inactivity.

There is also the possibility to manually force the iPad to enter sleep mode. This is a useful feature especially when you know you will walk away from the tablet for a few minutes and you don’t want anyone to be able to access its content and in the same time you don’t want to completely power off the tablet because you want to restart using it fast. In this case you will have to press the metal bar button that you can find in the upper corner of your iPad when the device sits in portrait mode. By pressing that button for a few seconds you will make sure the iPad enters sleep mode and can easily be waken up at any time by simply pressing the Home button. When the button mention will be hit you will be greeted by the Auto-Lock screen that keeps the data saved on your tablet protected.

If you want to turn off your iPad the old fashioned way you will have to simultaneously keep pressed the Home button and the Refresh button we’ve used to put the tablet to sleep for a few seconds. Within a minute the screen will turn completely black and you will not be able to wake the device by simply pressing the Home button. This time you will have to keep pressed in the same time and for a few seconds the Home and Refresh buttons you’ve used to turn off the device. You are supposed to let go of the button when the Apple logo is displayed and wait for the complete loading.
