Apple has sold 500.000 pieces of Apple iPads 2. Gene Munster, the analyst from the Piper Jeffrey company estimates that Apple has sold approximately 500.000 PC tablets from the second generation, iPad 2, in the first weekend after the official launch from 11 March says Bloomberg. The officials say inside a new note sent to the press that the devices on stock have been sold at some Apple stores and also at Target Gorp and Best buy retailers. In April 2010, Apple has sold approximately 300.000 iPads in the first 24 hours after the launch of the device. The company expects that in the first trimester which ends at the end of March, to sell 5.5 million Apple iPads. Other analysts say that Apple has sold three times more tablets from the second generation immediately after the launch than they sold in the same period from the launch of the first generation.
A study made by the clients who waited to enter in possession of the new iPad 2 show that approximately 70% already were owners of the previous PC tablet launched by Apple in 2010, Apple iPad. Also 20% of the clients which were waiting in front of the Apple store from Palo Alto said that they intended to buy an iPad model with 3G mode included.
The data presented by the IDC Company are showing that the media tablet market has a spectacular evolution by increasing two times in the 4th trimester of 2010 compared with the third trimester of the same year. SO in the last three months from 2010 were sold 10.1 million tablets while in the July – September period of the same year were sold only 4.5 million pieces. IDC say that Apple is losing their market share while other competitors are placing products on the market. So from 93% of the world tablet sells in the third trimester of 2010, Apple has reached 73% in September – December 2010.
Samsung Galaxy Tab was the main competitor for the Apple device covering 17% of the market. The analysis company are considering media tablets the ones with the diagonal bigger than 5 inches and smaller than 14 inches, color screen with simple versions of the operating system and x86 processors or ARM.
